Skin Picking

Skin picking, which is also known as dermatillomania or excoriation disorder, is where you can't stop picking, scratching or pulling at your skin. This may be conscious or sub conscious, and is often exacerbated by feelings such as stress or boredom, or by perceived irregularities of the skin. Skin picking can have a significant impact on your quality of life and lead to painful sores, bleeding, scarring and psychological distress.

My approach to supporting people struggling with skin picking often involves an evidence-based third wave cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) model aimed at helping you manage difficult thoughts and feelings without picking, as well as introducing strategies to help you manage stress, break habits and feel more in control of your skin picking behaviour.
